We are pleased to welcome you to Storchenwiege.de. I would like to tell you about the origins of the the Storchenwiege® baby sling, which is made in Germany:

As a textiles engineer, I have been working professionally in textiles production for more than 40 years. In Upper Lusatia, the East Saxon landscape where we live, the textiles industry has a long history. Professionally, I had some contact with midwives.

Other carriers were not as convenient, especially for the little baby. Also, Anna was a very clingy baby, who often demanded to be close to Mummy and Daddy in a loud voice. She wanted to be carried. The midwives gave me a tip: the best thing is a baby sling.

After I had tried out the products available on the market, I came to the conclusion that none of the slings were entirely suitable. I started to develop a material myself to use as a baby sling. I wanted the sling to be very durable and to be able to carry even a bigger child; it had to tie well, be soft and diagonally elastic, and fulfil all the environmental requirements: after all, it was to carry my granddaughter, Anna.

The result was "Storchenwiege®" - our own baby sling, produced in an environmentally friendly process, tested and certified free of harmful substances, diagonally elastic and extremely durable, as strong multiple-ply cotton yarn is used on both thread directions, lengthwise and crosswise.

Our Anna felt very much at home in it. She was supported wonderfully, as if by an invisible hand. Her delicate little spine was properly supported and Anna felt warm and cosy. Our contented grandchild was a wonderful incentive to me to bring the Storchenwiege® baby sling onto the market, convince young families of the sling's many advantages and motivate them to carry their children.

Next, it became possible to produce the Storchenwiege® baby sling in greater numbers. It was made run-resistant; a centreline marking and the different colours on the lengthwise edges of the sling make it easier to tie, adding the final touch to the Storchenwiege® baby sling, which also stands out as being particularly good value for money. Now, our Storchenwiege® baby sling is used highly successfully in Germany, Europe and overseas, and our other four grandchildren have felt - and still feel - happy and cosy in their slings.

At the start of 2009, with passing years, the time came to hand on the baton to the next generation. My two daughters - Ulrike Kaul and Claudia Dix - have already worked at Storchenwiege® for quite some time; they have supported me, contributed ideas and gained a great deal of knowledge. Both of them have extensive personal experience in wearing our five grandchildren. So they are very well-equipped to successfully develop Storchenwiege® in future. As of 1 January 2009, Storchenwiege®`s administration and delivery department was moved to Dresden, not far from the previous site in Eibau.

I will, of course, not be leaving Storchenwiege® for good, but will stand by my daughters as a consultant.
